Charity Boxing Event - Parx Boxing

Really enjoyed the charity boxing event hosted by Parx Boxing in aid of the Russ Dawkins Back on Track Foundation.

16 novices underwent 3 months of gruelling prep and then went on to slug it out in the ring for 3 x 2 minute rounds which was great to watch.

I was honoured to meet Russ and delighted that all proceeds from the evening would go to the Russ Dawkins Back on Track Foundation.

This charity is close to my heart because what happened to Russ could happen to any of us.

Also bumped in to my mate Kevin Mitchell so good night all round.

About Back on Track:

For 7 years Russ Dawkins had been part of a group of cyclists that spent one long weekend a year riding in France and Spain to raise money for charities.

During his last trip, his life changed forever. On a ride through the mountains in France, he had a horrific crash where he broke his collarbone and severed his spinal cord. Then during emergency surgery, the doctors operated to save his life and struggled to keep him alive. He suffered a heart-attack and remained in a coma for 2 weeks.

In an instant Russ went from being a super-fit athlete to a paraplegic.

His recovery to date has been miraculous! Russ is bound to a wheelchair but is no less determined to carry on living life and supporting others.

The Back on Track Trust has been created to help Russ to overcome his life changing event, to fund therapy and to get him back on track in terms of a re-introduction to sport as a therapy and to support those who suffer from spinal injuries and everyone affected by them.

An amazing story of determination and commitment to sport!
